Some Great News!

Posted by Nicholas Blumhardt | July 17, 2008 07:14

I am extremely happy to be able to announce that I'm joining Krzysztof Cwalina's team at Microsoft!

My position will be Program Manager, and our team is building MEF (the Managed Extensibility Framework) along with other projects.

MEF is really exciting - it's set to be a unique and very useful addition to the .NET Framework. Krzysztof and his team have a great vision for this project, and the opportunity to contribute directly is out of this world.

What makes this doubly exciting is that one of the visionaries of the ALT.NET world, Hamilton Verissimo, founder of the Castle Project, announced last night that he too is joining the team.

Triply exciting is that P&P guru Glen Block followed hot on the heels of Hamilton's announcement with news that he is doing the same.

What does this mean for Autofac? Like Hamilton and Castle, I'll still be able to contribute to Autofac, so there's no need to fear for its future. Moving, exploring the United States, and the new job are obviously going to consume a vast amount of my time, so if you're interested in propelling Autofac forwards there has never been a better time to lend a hand!

Right now there is a lot of organising to do - it is a big move and the next couple of months are going to be really, really busy. (Extra special thanks, Suzi, for helping out so much and putting up with all the mania!)

If you're in the Seattle area I'd love to hear from you - I'll be in the country by early September, so drop me a line!

Wow, that's great news! Congratulations! Good move for Microsoft, too, to be bringing in so many of the Alt.NET contributors.

Seems to me like the giant sucking sound is chasing after the .net IoC/DI developers out there. I wonder how long it'll take to grab the likes of Nate Kohari, Jeremy Miller, etc.? ;)

Congrats Nick!

This is getting more an more exciting by the minute ;)

Well done!

Congratulations!

Wow, I was surprised when Hamilton got his blue badge, but you too, Nick? Well, congratulations, and if you ever need a ninja-loving DI enthusiast on your team, give me a call. ;)

MEF is the winner

Congrats mate! MEF is going to be awesome with you and all those other talented people on it. I'm definitely going to keep an eye on that project!

Thanks, guys :)

One Ring to Rule Them All (MEF)

Posted by Alex | July 17, 2008 05:21

Congrats, but why do I feel sad that so many great open source projects are going to without doubt stagnate and wither away? Diversity is good, non-diversity is bad. I guess we will soon have One Ring To Rule Them All - too bad if you don't like it.

now that the way to do it! ;p

Way to go!

To both you, and Microsoft. When MEF was initially announced, I had severe reservations. The original stuff was a bit questionable to me. It seemed like a "toy" IoC container at best. I want something in the BCL very badly, but I don't want something over-engineered or under-capable. Unity is the former (ObjectBuilder is a mess, IMO, and basing Unity on it was therefore a mistake) and it seemed MEF was going to be the latter. Seeing all of the bright people being hired to work on MEF has made me excited, though. Go build us something to be proud to have in the BCL.

Awesome news and congrats!

Excellent stuff Nick, I knew you'd go far. Didn't think it would be geographically, but that's cool too!!
